So, you’ve booked a ticket to Europe and are ready for your study abroad adventure? But wait! Before you channel your inner adventurer, let's talk about the essentials that will keep you from feeling like a lost tourist in a new continent. Here’s your ultimate guide to the must-have apps and tools that will make your European escapade smooth sailing:
Skyscanner, Expedia, Hopper: These are my go-to favorites for finding cheap flights. Always compare prices on each site because the difference can be hundreds of dollars. Skyscanner is fantastic for broad searches; Expedia offers great bundle deals; and Hopper helps predict the best times to buy tickets.
FreeNow and Bolt: For car transportation, these apps are lifesavers. FreeNow works like Uber but for taxis, often arriving faster and with a fixed price option. Bolt is another Uber-like app, but much cheaper, helping you save on travel costs.
Hostelworld: Finding affordable and safe accommodation is a breeze with Hostelworld. It’s perfect for budget travelers looking for a comfortable place to stay.
Currency Converter App: Staying updated with the latest currency conversions is crucial when traveling through multiple countries with different currencies. This app ensures you always know the exact exchange rate.
Omio: The best app for taking trains through Europe. It’s user-friendly and helps you find the quickest and most affordable train routes.
Universal Adapter: A universal adapter is indispensable for keeping your devices charged across different countries. European outlets vary, so having a reliable adapter ensures you’re never left without power.
Collapsible Travel Laundry Hamper: This handy tool keeps your dirty clothes organized and can easily be packed away when not in use.
Card Holder: Opt for a card holder instead of a bulky wallet. It’s more convenient and reduces the risk of pickpocketing, keeping your essentials safe.
Travel Roll-Up Compression Bag: These bags are game-changers for packing. They allow you to fit more clothes in your suitcase by sucking the air out, making your luggage more compact and organized.
Wireless Portable Charger: A wireless portable charger is a travel must-have. It has saved my life numerous times when I needed to charge my phone on the go.
Fast Chargers: There will be times when you don’t have long to charge your devices, so a fast charger is immensely helpful. It ensures you can quickly get back to exploring without waiting around.
Compare Prices: Whether you’re booking flights or finding accommodation, always compare prices across multiple platforms. It can save you a significant amount of money.
Stay Connected: Ensure you have reliable internet access by getting a local SIM card or a portable Wi-Fi device. This way, you can always use your essential travel apps without worrying about data limits.
Local Transportation: Familiarize yourself with local transportation options. In addition to apps like FreeNow and Bolt, learn about local metro, bus, and tram systems to navigate cities like a pro.
