ASA Excursions from Dublin

Copy+of+ASA-Instagram+Template+(63)

To understand a country in greater depth, including its history and its culture, it’s important to head out of the big cities. We plan some excursions to help you do just that (and you’re welcome, of course, to venture off on your own during your breaks and weekends).

If you’re studying abroad in Dublin, you’ll be able to join in on the following program inclusions:

Semesters: 1 overnight excursion + 2 day trips

Summer term: 1 day trip

Excursions planned for each program vary, but past terms have included trips to:

GALWAY

(Overnight)

Aix-en-Provence+(59)

We’ll make our way across Ireland from Dublin to the west coast. From Connemara and its megalithic tombs to the magnificent views from the famous Cliffs of Moher to Burren National Park, Limerick, and traditional sheep shearing demonstrations, the ASA trip to Galway is packed with Irish culture.

Galway is the third largest city in Ireland. It has beautiful cobblestone streets, medieval architecture and a river running through the middle. It’s known as a foodie’s paradise, and has a university that creates a vibrant atmosphere in an intimate city.

WICKLOW & GLENDALOUGH

(Day trip)

Aix-en-Provence+(60)

Driving south from Dublin, we’ll spend a day in Wicklow and Glendalough. We’ll visit the hidden Guinness Lake, breath-taking waterfalls, famous film locations (such as from Braveheart and P.S. I Love You), Wicklow National Park, and finally, Glendalough which dates back to the 6th century.

CELTIC HERITAGE TOUR

(Day trip)

Aix-en-Provence+(61)

During this trip, we delve into Ireland’s 5,000 years of incredible history, legend and folklore, visiting prehistoric tombs, Celtic high crosses, ancient abbeys, and the Hill of Tara – an ancient ceremonial and burial site near Skryne in County Meath. This is a fantastic opportunity to take a deeper dive into your study abroad host country.

KILKENNY & KILKENNY CASTLE

(Day trip)

Aix-en-Provence+(62)

Sitting halfway between Dublin and Cork, Kilkenny is a medieval walled city with ancient cobbled streets and old-world charm. We’ll take a guided walking tour of the city center, including to St. Canice’s Cathedral and Jerpoint Abbey. Then we’ll carry on to the incredible Kilkenny Castle with a fascinating history that dates back to its build date in 1195.
